Brief Info:
The Cathedral Church of St. David, Kudeti is a historic and vibrant center of Anglican worship and mission in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. As the cathedral of the Ibadan South Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, it stands as a beacon of faith, heritage, and community life in the region. Our Heritage Founded on April 27, 1853, by the pioneering missionary Reverend David Hinderer of the Church Missionary Society (CMS) and his colleagues, St. David’s is widely recognized as the oldest Christian church in Ibadan and its environs. Its first worship service was held in a humble mission hut at Kudeti, marking the beginning of organized Anglican presence in the city. Over the years, the church grew steadily, laying the foundations for Christian witness, spiritual formation, and community service across Ibadanland and beyond. This growth mirrored the missionary zeal of its founders, whose work included both evangelism and education — vital components of the church’s early outreach. Evolution into a Cathedral From its modest beginning as a mission station of the CMS, the church evolved into a parish and later became a central hub for Anglican mission and administration in the area. In 1999, St. David’s was formally dedicated as the cathedral church of the newly established Diocese of Ibadan South, becoming the seat of the diocesan bishop and the spiritual mother church for countless congregations within the diocese. Vision and Mission Rooted in the Anglican tradition of worship, discipleship, and service, the Cathedral Church of St. David remains committed to: Exalting God through faithful worship and prayer Proclaiming the gospel to all people Nurturing believers through sound biblical teaching and discipleship Serving the wider community with compassion and practical care As an active participant in the life of the Church of Nigeria, the cathedral also supports diocesan initiatives in evangelism, education, health outreach, and social development. A Place of Legacy and Hope For over a century and a half, St. David’s has witnessed remarkable growth — spiritually, numerically, and historically. Its legacy is one of steadfast faith, resilience, and community transformation. Today, it continues to inspire generations, drawing worshippers from all walks of life to experience meaningful fellowship, worship, and service in the love of Christ.
